Who qualifies

• You own your home and live in it as your main residence
• Total gross household income is under £23,000 a year
• If someone in the household receives a disability benefit, the income limit rises to £35,000 — and PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance and Carer's Allowance are not counted as income
• Not available to Housing Executive or housing association tenants (they have their own programme)

What it covers

Loft and cavity wall insulation, solid wall insulation, draught-proofing, a new or replacement oil or gas boiler and heating controls, and in some cases window replacement. The work is done by approved contractors — it is not a cash payment.

How to apply

Contact the NI Energy Advice Service on 0800 111 4455. If you appear to qualify they will send you an application form to return to your local Housing Executive grant office with proof of income.

The scheme was due to end in March 2026 but has been extended while its replacement, the Warm Healthy Homes Fund, is finalised. It does not currently fund heat pumps or solar panels.

Is the Affordable Warmth Scheme still open?

Yes. It has been extended beyond its original March 2026 end date and continues to accept applications while the Warm Healthy Homes Fund is being set up.

Do I have to pay anything back?

No. It is a grant for works, not a loan. The Housing Executive pays approved contractors directly.

I rent privately — can I apply?

Current Housing Executive guidance describes the scheme as being for owner-occupiers. Private tenants have been able to apply in the past with their landlord's written consent, so it is worth asking the NI Energy Advice Service about your situation.
